For you married Oppos out there, what was the first song/music you danced to with your new bride/groom at your wedding? This was our song, and it perfectly describes how my new wife took care of my drunk ass through college. And, after 27 years, she still wonderful, although I’m a lot less drunk.

JK, we didn’t dance or have music. I was 21 and working in a vegetable store. I couldn’t afford such luxuries

Sometimes marriage does feel this way, though.

We’re so ridiculously modern. It’s only been about 1.5 years now. It worked well for us since we really don’t/can’t dance, so we just swayed back and forth turning around slowly as I tried not to step on her dress. We ultimately ended up dancing all night and it’s the only time we’ve ever done that.

True. I’ve only been married for 5 years, but I can imagine that it becomes more nutty as time goes on and kids become involved.
(I no longer work in a vegetable store, I have a career)

This is mine. I picked it because it’s cool.

One of Louis’ greatest songs, and he never even played his trumpet.

That’s what dancing is all about. I can’t remember how many times I stepped on her dress that night. That’s a beautiful song.

Yep - my wife picked that one, she had her heart set on it from the get go. Wonderful Tonight is a great one, too - I went to quite a few weddings in the ‘90s where that was the first dance song.
I was pushing for Chasing Cars by Snow Patrol - so we ended up using that for the slide show (which was more memorable for me than that first dance somehow).

I only remember our first dance from the photos. It was a whirlwind of a day and, I must say, I got rather heavily inebriated. My only advice to newlyweds: Be sure to eat as much as possible at your reception.

“It had to be you” played by a local jazz quarter. Our dancing was abysmal, we have four left feet between us. 14 years this October.

Rolling Stones - Loving Cup as performed by our wedding band
The London Souls
Fun fact, we took dance lessons for weeks, then 10 days before the wedding I suffered appendicitis and the resulting emergency appendectomy. So our dancing was limited.
I walked down the aisle to a string quartet playing The Proclaimers - I’m Gonna Be (500 Miles) and my wife walked down to the string quartet playing Ziggy Stardust. We made good musical choices.

I dont remember the first song, and I think it would take my wife a long time to remember it as well, the last song we both remember (we didn’t have the life version but its good too)

Oh, wow - I can’t remember what the last song of the night was now that you mention it.

well the first song was a large debate. obviously she won, and said i can chose the last song. My argument was that she was just picking a song that was popular for first dances and i was picking one that actually meant something and was one that I would listen to anyway.

Etta James, “At Last”. It’s a slow song, so we danced slowly as people do.
It was appropriate as we were both in our late twenties.

I wanted “Tennessee Whiskey” but was vetoed because did not want to give off the alcoholic vibe. We ended up with “More of You” by Chris Stapleton and it was perfect.

Etta James is always the right answer.

Thanks.
I somehow made it through the whole evening without stepping on her dress even once, then at the very end as we were heading to the car through a behind-the-scenes area with our planner, the planner stopped abruptly, I stepped on the back without noticing, and as my wife started walking the bustle attachment ripped. We had a bit of a moment where the planner grabbed her kit, pinned it all back together, then we completed our exit...

We walked down the aisle after saying “I do” to “Together You and I” by Dolly Parton. We’re both huge Dolly fans.
First dance was to “The Day Before You” by Matthew West.

Ray Lamontagne - You Are The Best Thing
My wife chose it. I didn’t really know it, but it was great. A little awkward dancing in front of 10 people in my aunt’s living room, though.

This is a month late because it just occurred to me that I haven’t been on Oppo much lately, and I should catch up on This Date in Aviation History:
My wife and I were married in October of 2015. We’re old souls and grew up listening to the music our parents did. We’re both big fans of Billy Joel and danced to She’s Got a Way, though performed by our wedding band rather than a recording. They did a fine job.
